Frequently Asked Questions
Q) How long does it normally take to restore a vehicle?
A) This depends on the type of car it is, how hard the parts are to come by, the condition it is presented to us, if it is a full or partial restoration & the costs involved. It is not unusual for some projects to take many years however on discussion of your requirements, we can give you an idea with our current workload.
Q) How does the payment plan work?
A) As with any business, cash flow is necessary for it to succeed. We usually ask our client to sign an agreement of our terms & conditions regarding hours of labour we will charge & expected monthly payments required. These payments are usually one month in advance. At the completion of the month, photos with reports are sent to the owner to see the progression of the vehicle.
Q) At times, progession appears to be slow. How is time charged during these periods?
A) We are happy to have any owner of a project we undertake to spend a day or more with us to understand the process we take, why we do it & the need to ensure the job is done right the first time. We spend many hours on the Internet researching information to ensure the car conforms to its original specifications or for the latest performance tweaks for minimal cost. We like to think our attention to detail is what sets us apart from other restoration businesses. We also prefer to manufacturer as much as possible in house to ensure the build details is correct & this takes time in building templates
Q) RP Motorsport's focus & experience has been based in motorsport. What about the other services?
A) Yes motorsport is our focus. However more is learnt in driving the vehicle to its extreme limit & finding its weak areas. No qualification other than practical experience can this knowledge be learnt & this is why we specialize in the listed services unlike the standard mechanical workshops. Car manufacturers often enter vehicles in competitions to understand new developments & ensure the car is designed to its limits? Like race cars, when a hot rod or classic vehicle comes in for a restoration or a kit car requires assembly, it is no different to having to pull apart a race car & checking every component thoroughly. Remember, we prepare race cars where drivers risk there lives in every event. Safety is of the most paramount importance to us. Race cars are typically pulled apart after every meeting. We place the same amount of pride & passion in completing the work to restore a classic as it does to build a race car. If for whatever reason we can not do the job or complete a process, we will find someone who can with more experience.
